The credit has to go to the local community of Penge, who together funded 87% of our target before the Mayor's final contribution.
And 60% of our local funding was secured in just 6 days in June, with significant contributions from local businesses including propertyworld, Designer Drapes, Kirvan Bond, Premier Food & Wines and The Bridge House.
Thanks to all of our backers who have funded Pengelicious.
But it does not stop there. We now need to make Pengelicious a success. Again, we need your help, to get our local community to support and come to visit Pengelicious on the day. Here's how...
Local food by local people for local people
Pengelicious will be the first local food festival for SE20, celebrating the diverse home cooking, local food and local food traders or SE20 and nearby.
Pengelicious will take place in the grounds of St Johns Church on Penge High Street, on August 27th, in partnership with the wider Penge Day festivities further down the High Street. (This photo is taken from the side road not the High Street.)
August Bank Holiday Saturday
Right now we are firming up our participating stallholders, which we hope to be able to confirm soon. We are speaking with a number of local caterers, restaurants, cafes and home cooks, who are in the process of confirming their menu for the day. If you might want to join them, get in touch with email@example.com
All stallholders will be offering a Taster Bundle, of one or mores dishes, for the same price across all stalls. All stallholders will offer both veggie and non-veggie options. On the day Taster Bundles will cost £4 each (cash only). Early Bird tickets for Taster Bundles are available for just £3.25 (20% discount) on the www.pengecanteen.com website.
Most comparable street food is often priced in the £6-8 range, so roughly double the price of Pengelicious. As well as saving you money, Early Bird tickets help our stallholders plan their shopping and cooking, and reduce food waste. On our High Street £4 could buy you, for example, a McDonalds Tasty Burger or a KFC meal deal of 2 chicken pieces, regular fries and a fizzy drink. Which would you rather see on your High Street?

We'd particularly like to hear from under 18s who'd like to get involved with the CanTeen project.
